Trinity Gullies or Snowdon Horseshoe, Snowdon (+ Clwt y Bel)

Sun 5th Feb 2023

Meet at the entrance to the café at the top of Pen y Pass (Grid Reference: SH647556, What3Words: drip.poorly.order) at 08:30am ready for an 08:40am departure. The hut is available for SMC members to use that weekend.

We recommend that you park your car at the bottom of Pen Y Pass in the official car park near the Pen y Gryd Hotel (Grid Reference: SH659557, What3Words: coverings.probing.weds). Then walk up to the meeting point via the road or track up the hill side to Pen Y Pass car park.

If you want to join, please let Sean Toms know on 07836 733448 or via email at sean_toms@robinson-toms.com. This is important as he will need to communicate plans to all those who have confirmed they will attend.

Climbable snow permitting, the objective of this meet is to ascend the Trinity Face of Snowdon via the classic Central Trinity (Grade ½) or possibly Left Hand Trinity (Grade c2 – slightly harder, less gear). Harder routes are available for those with the skills – Right Hand Trinity (Grade 3), Laddies Gully (Grade 3) or Cave Gully (Grade 3 – includes an awkward cave to exit). The routes are up to roughly 700 feet long. It will take around 2 hours to walk in from the road. All end on the summit ridge of Snowdon.

To join the climb you will need – harness, helmet and 2 technical axes (inclined), 12 point crampons.

If snow conditions are not good enough for climbing, we will do the Snowdon Horseshoe instead. For this, you will need crampons and a single axe.

If the weather is poor on the day, we will simply stick to the Pyg Track and then make a decision on top of Snowdon whether it is safe to do the rest of the Horseshoe, or simply return via the Pyg Track or Miners Track.
